The First Frost Descends

The Schola Cantorem of Trees Welcomes the Autumn Dawn

Thursday, November 9, 2017

The first frost descended upon the lake slope of my yard this morning

Each voice showed forth in its particularity

This is the House of God
and Gate of Heaven

By the end of sunrise prayer
the frost had disappeared
leaving unspoiled the greenness of the grass

  1. Beautiful photos. Is that your neighborhood?

    1. It is not only my neighborhood, the lower quarter is my yard. The blues spruces and arborvitae are on my property.

The view is from my deck which is overgrown with euonymus fortunei (winter creeper). In the lower left of the third picture are some mums which are sitting on my porch.

I have many photos both from a camera and now from my iPhone (these). Perhaps I shall increasing make my contribution in the form of photo essays. A picture is worth a thousand words.

I live on a corner lot. The road in the picture curves as it goes down hill. The hill is the slope of the old Lake bed after the glaciers melted and lake was higher. That is why I called it the lake slope. When you dig down about two feet you hit pure sand. I am told further down it is pure gravel.

    2. Rachel, why don't you become a poster here. You have a lot of interesting links in your e-mails but it is difficult to keep track of them since I get a lot of junk e-mails.

    3. Thanks. I might, though I’m not sure how to go about it.

    4. Try going back to the beginning of the blog, I think there was something about it.

I think David Nichol needs your email address.

Put some of your links in as comments. Sooner or later Nickol will notice and get you the link that will allow you to come aboard. I look forward to having you post.

  3. Beautiful pictures, Jack! My favorite is the first one, with the pink sky.

    1. Me too. I’ve saved it to my photos. I paint and think it would be a great painting. I haven’t painted for over a year. Andy’s lung cancer has me down. I’m not clinically depressed, but I’m functioning on low.

  4. Lovely! Amazing how many leaves you have just one or two hundred miles south of us in Michigan!

    1. We are only ten miles from the Lake which keeps us warmer, later frosts, and later leaf falling. Area south of us further from the Lake have had their frosts and their leaves are down.

Our average 30 year first frost was about October 10, however the frosts in the last ten years have been later. Yes climate change is for real. Our October's Novembers, and Decembers have been warmer. Lot more time in the outdoors in those months than would have been the case two or three decades ago.

    2. Last two Christmases, we have taken walks in the state park and had coffee and Christmas cookies at the picnic table. Supposedly a bitter cold winter on the way here, but dry until January, then big dumps of snow.
