Is Trump meshugah?

Absolutely delightful article in Commonweal about diagnosing Trump using the Diagnostic Manual of Meshugas.

Best line is the last words of wisdom in the article which I violated by posting this.

  1. Yiddish/Jewish culture has a low tolerance for b.s. and a kind of innate bluntness about people. See Gary Shteyngart's book, "Little Failure," his parents' affectionate nickname for him.

Many of us seem to want to find some explanatory label for Trump. He's like that relative who is constantly trying to rope you (and your money) into some vague business opportunity. Is he crazy? Like a fox? An opportunist? How much of his own bloviating does he actually believe?

He reminds me of my cousin Chuckie, who tried to get us to invest in his scheme to build berm houses with optional solar and wind power that would allow you to go off-grid. He had an unnamed partner who had some patent pending design. That only the two of them knew about that would make it a big success.

    We passed.

  2. Definitely a kvetching putz. Or as Bruce Banner said of Loki in the Avengers movie, "That guy's brain is a bag full of cats. You can smell crazy on him."

  3. Poor cats. Poor Loki. Poor Tom Hiddleston, who has to hide his pretty face with that dumb Loki hat. Here's a good clip. Except he says "Alabamer." https://m.youtube.com/#/watch?v=Re1TnXTpf4I

    1. I don't know if I could stand another King Kong movie, even for Tom Hiddleston. I enjoyed "Only Lovers Left Alive."

  5. The piece is funny, but Comrade Trump long ago exceeded funniness and became dangerous. The truth is not in him. He avoids it even when it is convenient. In the AP story on Ryan's Purgatory that ran in my local paper today, Comrade Trump is quoted as saying he never said he would replace Obamacare "in 64 days." Then the story deadpans that, no, he had said he would replace it "immediately." It then quotes him as saying it's time for the Democrats to help and clarifies that Obamacare passed with exactly no Republican votes. The Associated Press never corrected high officials as it went along like that. When it cites poor Sean Spicer, it regularly mentions when there is no evidence for what he says, which is regularly the case. Meanwhile, the fact checkers who were set up to keep politics fairly honest have given up on his little howlers and are out of breath trying to keep up with his big ones.
