I don't know that this qualifies as an Easter hymn, but inasmuch as it's one big "thank you", I think it fits. I don't know that it's ever achieved lift-off as one that's widely used, but in my opinion it's one that deserves to be more well-known.
Here's a more contemporary Easter song. The composer, Ricky Manalo, is really talented. This one is called "Proclaim the Message".

When I directed an ensemble, up until 10-15 years ago, we sang this during Easter season for a few years. But I never really had the vocal and instrumental forces to do it in the full-blown arrangement you can hear on this recording.
The baritone soloist in the recording is uncredited; whoever he is (possibly Ricky Manalo?), I'd pay to hear him. Our ensemble didn't have any baritones like him, so we had our best singer, who happened to be a soprano, take the first couple of verses. The fun of being a choir leader: first rule: "adapt". :-).
Here's my fave. Love those "alleluias." Sometimes the processional doesn't get to the last verse, and that's a shame.

That's probably my favorite Easter hymn.
DeleteThis is also a favorite. The fun starts about 2:50. And he just keeps singin'!
