  1. Donald Trump is no match for her. But whether he is a match for her party confreres is yet to be seen.

  2. After the election, the photographer who shot the photo in which she forced the stable genius to look up at her will be taken out and shot. For treason. But I do like the way the photographer caught a four-star general doing all he can to avoid being called on.

In both photos the almost sainted Kevin McCarthy looks as if he is pondering a mis-spent youth spent pledging loyalty to the Sassenachs.

  3. Note that Saint Kevin is second behind Pelosi (in prayer) looking heavenward to see if a thunder bolt is about to come crashing down.

  4. I'm glad there was a large table between Pelosi and Trump...enough room to give her finger space to touche!

  5. I have a lot of respect for Nancy P. I don't agree with her on everything, but I don't agree with anybody on everything. I think she has behaved with dignity and intelligence in the current mess. And I am good and sick of the Catholic right-wing saying she's a Catholic in name only and shouldn't come up for Communion.

  6. If the likes of Barr and McCarthy can be Catholics, anyone can be. And isn't that how it's supposed to be? Pray for them.

  7. And now this:

“It’s been … suggested that Turkey may have called America’s bluff, telling the president they are coming no matter what we did. If that’s so, we should know it. For it would tell us a great deal about how we should deal with Turkey, now and in the future.... Are we so weak and inept diplomatically that Turkey forced the hand of the United States of America? Turkey!? I believe that it’s imperative that public hearings are held to answer these questions, and I hope the Senate is able to conduct those hearings next week.”

Sen. Mitt Romney quoted in WaPo today

    1. Well I guess better late than never for the "serious Republicans" to figure out that Trump isn't good for America, or anybody else. But I'm holding out saying I have any respect for them until at least 20 of them show willingness to vote against him in an impeachment trial.
For the ones who think everything is hunky-dory as long as the economy is humming along; they might want to take a look at this article by Robert Samuelson. Turns out the USA/China trade wars are having an effect, and not a good one.

    2. I hope I am not the only one who noticed that the "cease fire" St. Michael "pounded" on Erdogan to agree to gave Turkey what it went to war to get -- a Kurdless buffer zone. And Erdogan may keep it, pending his visit next week with the leader of the formerly free World, Vladimir Putin, who is known to the owner of the moldy-smelling resort where the next G-7 meeting will happen.

    3. "...moldy-smelling resort where the next G-7 meeting will happen." And I can't believe those trying to normalize that, "nothing to see here, deal with it". Can you imagine if Obama had pulled that stunt.

    4. The ONLY people who can de-normalize Trump are other Republicans willing to subject him to criticism and scrutiny. Anything Democrats do can be dismissed as "politics."

    5. Two-thirds of Republicans voted in the House.to condemn Trump's moves in Turkey, according to Newsweek. That tells me that Trump has real trouble in his hands in his own party.

    6. I just made the mistake of looking at Facebook. Trump's true believers say they will never desert him, they will be loyal forever. Too bad the sentiment isn't returned, he would betray them in a heartbeat. I'm sure they will declare him a martyr if he is impeached.

    7. The Rs have tut-tutted at their Maximum Leader over foreign affairs before. The truth is, Trump's base thinks foreign policy is a communist plot anyway. But those Rs are preparing to censure Adam Schiff for, if you can believe this, lying to them. Allegedly.

I've seen Gen. "Mad Dog" Mattis's comment at the Al Smith dinner reported only one place. The general Trump called "overrated" said "I won my spurs on a battlefield, not on a letter from my doctor." I'd like to see that quip reported at least as often as the name of Hunter Biden. But no. No "news value," I guess.

    8. Tom, the Mattis quote has been all over Facebook, for whatever that's worth.

    9. Oh, good. My usual sources tend to revert to Victorian Gentleman if it isn't Trump saying it.

    10. The Guardian is paying attention to U.S. admirals and generals!

They're waiting to see what happens to their own country on Saturday....

    11. We sure have problems, but the Brits are basically committing economic suicide. Or maybe financial castration. (Not sure which analogy works best.) They're going to owe the EU $47 billion and everything coming in will now cost more.

Although, if they're leaving a soft border in Ireland, isn't that a perfect set-up for smuggling stuff in and out? The French can send champagne to a Dublin middle man, who then boosts it over to a Belfast distributor at a mark-up less than import fees.

That's assuming, of course, anybody in the UK will be able to afford champagne or have anything to celebrate.

    12. Boris Johnson has had a serious setback in the Parliament. His deal was thwarted by an amendment (I don't understand how these things work) that required him to seek an extension whether or not the Brexit deal won and appears to have postponed the actual vote on Brexit. The Speaker, John Berclow, who has said he will resign is still on duty and seems to be doing everything possible to undermine Brexit (or so it seems to me).

And they are rioting in Spain and Chile!! What is going on?
